Pastor: Sid Couperus
Pastor Sid was born and raised in Belleville Ontario, by loving parents who discipled him, two brothers and a sister, in and through the Christian Reformed Church. He attended Dordt College receiving a B.A. in Philosophy and went on to get his Masters of Divinity at Calvin Theological Seminary.
He began his ministry in 1986 in First Christian Reformed Church of Guelph, and helped daughter New Life CRC in 1988. While in Guelph, Pastor Sid married Susan DeVries, from Pine Bush, New York. They were blessed with four children while in Guelph.
He took a call in 1994 to Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Abbotsford British Columbia, where he served for seventeen years. Their fifth child Monika was born in Mission, British Columbia.
Pastor Sid completed his Doctor of Ministry through Fuller Theological Seminary in 2009 and in 2011 took a call to Mountainview Christian Reformed Church in Grimsby Ontario. There, he published a discipleship manual entitled: Come and See; Our World Belongs to God. In September 2019, he, along with his wife Sue, took up a new charge of serving First Christian Reformed Church here in Owen Sound. May God’s name continue to be glorified, honored and praised.
Administrative Assistant: Shirley Visser
I have been the Administrative Assistant for our church since 2012. I enjoy my job and it is a joy and a privilege to work here!
I am a lifelong member of the Owen Sound Christian Reformed Church. In my role of administrative assistant it is my desire to help members and guests feel appreciated and cared for and to serve you with my organizational skills.
My husband Phil and I have 2 sons, 2 daughters and 3 precious granddaughters. In my spare time I enjoy scrapbooking and reading. Please call or email if you have any questions. I will do my best to answer your questions or direct you to someone who can. I’m in the office Tuesday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Custodian: Corrine Hummel
A former pastor once told me that as Custodian I was also the 'Gatekeeper'. I always valued that title as I do my best to make our building a comfortable place to worship and study God's Word. I am thankful for my husband who helps when needed, for my five children who have helped many times, and my ten grandchildren who occasionally get to go to 'work' with Gramma.
Youth Programs Coordinator: Carrie VanDorp
Carrie was baptised and her faith formed in the Owen Sound Christian Reformed Church before she headed to Redeemer University College for a Bachelor of Science and then to University of British Columbia Okanagan for a Masters in Biology. Carrie has worked internationally in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, with newcomer refugee immigrant communities in Hamilton and most recently as a teacher and community development worker in Nigeria. She and her husband Dan are excited to be part of the church which has been such a solid support through all of those adventures, and to bring experiences from God’s worldwide church into children and youth faith formation in Owen Sound.
